Putting Transition Planning into Action
This approach is reflected in the work developed for TUFF, including the TUFF Financial Literacy Workbook. The workbook embodies SETT’s transition-driven philosophy by translating essential life skills—such as financial decision-making, planning, and independence—into structured, accessible learning experiences for students. By integrating literacy-based strategies, real-world applications, and reflective planning, the TUFF curriculum serves as a practical extension of SETT’s mission to prepare students not just to graduate, but to thrive beyond the classroom.
Together, SETT’s framework and TUFF’s curriculum demonstrate how intentional transition planning can be embedded into meaningful, real-world instruction that supports long-term student success.
Setting Early Transitional Tactics (SETT) is rooted in the belief that students deserve intentional preparation for life beyond school. SETT’s work focuses on early, student-centered transition planning that equips young people with the self-awareness, practical skills, and confidence needed to navigate adulthood successfully. Through transition-focused curriculum, and college and career readiness support, SETT addresses the gap between academic learning and real-world readiness.

Preparing Students for Life Beyond School
Transition planning is also embedded within the TUFF Financial Literacy Workbook through the SETT framework. This work highlights the importance of financial literacy as a critical part of preparing students for life beyond graduation. By intentionally connecting financial concepts to transition planning, students are able to see how money management, decision-making, and goal setting relate directly to their future independence.
This collaboration has given students access to the language, text, and structured opportunities needed to explore their own financial goals. Through guided activities and reflection, students are empowered to think critically about their choices, understand real-world financial expectations, and connect their personal goals to practical planning for adulthood.
A Practical Guide for Life Beyond School
The TUFF Financial Literacy Workbook empowers students to take control of their financial future with confidence. Designed for high school learners, it combines real-life money lessons with reading, writing, and reflection to help students connect financial choices to their goals.
As part of SETT’s transition-focused approach, this workbook supports students in developing the skills they need to navigate adulthood responsibly, make informed decisions, and build a foundation for independence.
What This Workbook Covers
The TUFF Financial Literacy Workbook for Grades 9–12 is organized to guide students through a progressive learning experience that builds financial understanding, real-world application, and long-term planning skills. Beginning with a curriculum overview and pre-assessment, students establish a baseline understanding of key financial concepts before engaging in structured activities focused on earning, saving, investing, credit, and taxes.
The workbook then transitions into real estate fundamentals, introducing students to renting, homeownership, and mortgage-based investing as part of broader life planning. Literacy-based strategies such as annotation, reading responses, and written reflection are embedded throughout to strengthen comprehension and critical thinking. The experience culminates in a Life Action Plan, allowing students to connect financial knowledge to personal goals, postsecondary planning, and future independence.
Aligned with Jump$tart Financial Literacy Standards, this workbook equips students with the skills and confidence needed to make informed financial decisions and prepare for life beyond school.
