Why I Created SETT

Carmen Marrero

Founder

SETT (Setting Early Transitional Tactics) was created because I believe every student deserves intentional support as they prepare for life beyond graduation. My work is rooted in helping students understand who they are, recognize their strengths, and build the skills they need to navigate real-world expectations with confidence.

My commitment to this work is shaped by both lived experience and professional training. I grew up in Passaic, New Jersey, and later taught in the Bronx, experiences that grounded me in the realities many students face every day. Growing up in environments that required resilience taught me to move forward with purpose, stand firm during uncertainty, and believe in the value of perseverance—lessons that continue to guide how I support students today.

I have over 15 years of experience in the education field and hold two master’s degrees—one in Bilingual Special Education from City College and one in School and District Leadership from the College of Saint Rose. This background has strengthened my understanding of how students learn, how systems function, and why transition planning must be inclusive, equitable, and student-centered.

Through SETT, I work directly with students using a structured, reflective workbook that supports self-awareness, life skills, college and career readiness, and future planning. I believe transition planning should be practical and accessible—not something that happens at the last minute, but a process that grows with students over time and centers their voice.

I am deeply committed to working alongside schools, families, and community partners to create meaningful opportunities for students. SETT is not just a program—it is a shared effort to help young people move toward adulthood with clarity, purpose, and support.
