    Carmen Marrero - Executive Director

    Carmen Marrero is an educational leader with over 15 years of experience focused on special education, student support, and program development across various educational settings, including service as an adjunct professor. She holds two master’s degrees, one in Bilingual Special Education and another in School Building and District Leadership. Carmen is mission-driven to ensure students, particularly those requiring additional support, are prepared for life after high school through structured skill development, self-awareness, and future planning. As Founder and Executive Director of SETT, she leads the organization’s vision, strategic direction, and program development, oversees partnerships with schools and community organizations, and advances initiatives that support college, career, and life readiness for students.

    Yimelka Morales - Treasurer

    Yimelka Morales is an entrepreneur who brings strong organizational and financial management skills to her role as Treasurer for SETT (Setting Early Transitional Tactics). She supports budget development, expense monitoring, and financial reporting to ensure transparency and responsible fiscal oversight. Yimelka plays a key role in maintaining organized financial systems that support the organization's sustainability and long-term growth. Her entrepreneurial mindset and commitment to accountability strengthen SETT’s ability to deliver impactful programming for students.

    Dr. Lorilet Monegro - Board Member, Communication & Student Support Advisor

    Dr. Lorilet Monegro is a bilingual speech-language pathologist with over 23 years of experience supporting communication development and student success. She is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and has extensive experience working with diverse learners and families. Dr. Monegro is also a best-selling author whose work focuses on communication, education, and student achievement. As a Board Member and Communication & Student Support Advisor for SETT, she provides guidance on language accessibility, inclusive practices, and student-centered supports that strengthen program effectiveness and family engagement.

    Dr. Christopher D. Yawn, PhD — Research & Higher Education Advisor

    Dr. Christopher D. Yawn is a researcher and higher education professional who brings expertise in research design, data analysis, and program evaluation. He supports the development of evidence-based practices and contributes to strengthening the research foundation of SETT programs. Dr. Yawn provides guidance on data collection, evaluation strategies, and collaboration with higher education institutions to support program validation and continuous improvement. His work strengthens the academic credibility of SETT and supports the organization’s commitment to measurable student outcomes.

    Dr. Sayi Neufeld — Instructional Advisor

    Dr. Sayi Neufeld is a Special Education leader with over two decades of experience supporting students, educators, and school systems. She serves as a professor at City College and as a Senior Student Services Coordinator at Excellence Schools, where she supports student success and program implementation. Dr. Neufeld provides guidance on curriculum implementation, instructional strategies, and educator training to ensure programs are practical, effective, and responsive to student needs. Her extensive experience in special education leadership strengthens instructional quality and supports the successful implementation of SETT programs.
